Ombudsman continues promoting the rights of the elderly in retirement homes and medical centres

Within the wider project of promoting the rights of the elderly that has been implemented by the Center for Human Rights since last year, the Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia (Ombudsman) prepared a poster entitled The Elderly Have Their Rights Too. The poster is derived from the recently published informative brochure, which summarises a few key items of information on the rights and position of the elderly in Slovenia. At the Ombudsman, we try to help the elderly to better understand their rights through various activities, raise public awareness about the distress and violations the elderly face, and encourage the respect of all people, regardless their age.

The Ombudsman sent the poster to all retirement homes and medical centres in Slovenia, aiming to spread the information among the widest possible circle of elderly people and the population in general. We strive to empower the elderly to be able to confidently protect themselves, their rights, and their dignity. It is important for them to know what they are entitled to so that if injustice or ill-treatment happens, they know how to turn to the right people or institutions that can help them.

We believe that together we can contribute to the awareness that everyone has the right to a dignified old age and that nobody should be left alone in times of distress – everyone has the right to respect, help, and safe living.
